How to get rid of the stretch marks post delivery?
Every woman has stretch marks on some part of her body being pregnant or not. Although, stretch marks post-delivery might be more of a concern. Stretch marks are the result of your middle layer of skin or the underlying tissue tearing from being stretched so tightly during pregnancy.
These tears become visible on the surface of your skin later. But relax. We have got you some tips to get rid of those stubborn post-pregnancy stretch marks.
Tips to fade stretch marks away :
This is the most effective and oldest method to treat a lot of issues. Massage the area softly and in a circular motion to increase blood circulation and break up the tissues causing these marks along with providing the minerals and vitamins your skin needs to recover.
You can use any oil, be coconut oil or stretch marks prevention oil or a mixture of carrier oil and essential oil for this purpose. After you are done massage for 2 minutes, go to another spot. For more effective use, use a warm oil but make sure it’s warm enough and does not irritate your sensitive skin.
Aloe Vera: This is one of the natural methods and works well. All you need is an Aloe Vera leaf and cut it in between to extract the gel. Massage your belly, hips and other areas with this gel and let it absorb. You do not have to wash it away. Repeat it twice a day. Aloe Vera has healing and hydrating components useful for your skin.
Petroleum Jelly: It has components that lock in the moisture and help repair dry and stretched skin. All you need is to apply this jelly and let it stay overnight. Do it every day before you go to bed.
Dry Brushing: This technique is used for almost all the body parts. It helps to get rid of toxins and dead skin cells. It will promote blood and lymph circulation in the area. For this you need a soft bristle hand brush and brush your skin in circular upward directions for 5-6 minutes, then have a warm shower and then apply moisturizer.
Coffee mixed with olive oil could work wonders. Coffee can easily penetrate your skin and revitalize the skin cells by stimulating circulation. This, along with the olive oil, ensures complete nourishment, is supplied to the affected area to heal the stretch marks. You need to apply a coffee scrub and let it stay for a few minutes and wash it off.
Lemon and baking soda: Soda is a natural skin exfoliator. While lemon has bleaching properties that fade the skin. It also removes the layer of dead and damaged skin. Apply lemon juice mixed with half a spoon of baking soda and let it dry on your skin. Later just wash it away.
Over the counter lotions and creams: Creams like Vitamin C, Hyaluronic acid, Centella Asiatica, etc. It could be used with consultation from your doctor or midwife. These creams are more effective than other home remedies but might have certain side effects if your skin is very sensitive. Tretinoin is also the cream containing Vitamin A which is mostly recommended by the doctors but not to be used if you are planning another pregnancy.
Apricots at rescue: Remove the seed of the apricot and cut it in pieces and blend. Make a smooth paste and leave it on your affected skin for around 20 minutes and then rinse it with lukewarm water.
Did we forget hydration yet? The key to everything is to stay hydrated. Drink 8 glasses of water and lots of juices. Keep that head away from your body especially during summers. Staying cool will contribute to the healing of your torn skin. It is easy and cheaper than anything plus keeps the toxins away. For better results avoid caffeine and strong drinks.
Castor Oil: Your grandmother’s book extracts would say castor oil to fade marks away. Massage your skin with castor oil for 5-6 minutes and then place a plastic sheet over it. Roll a hot bottle on the sheet for the pores to pop open and the oil to penetrate into the skin. Repeat this twice a day for better results.
Now whatever you do to get rid of them, know everything takes time. And if you wish to let your scars be untreated, then that’s not a bad idea too because they will almost disappear in a few months when you get back to your normal shape.
