From when exactly the labour pain starts before delivery?

Giving birth to a new life could be an overwhelming experience as a mother but at the same time, it could be a little painful one. Women are believed to have the power to bear the pain during labour, but you will still have concerns about how labour and delivery feel like. Although you could experience labour pains even before your delivery or actual labour.

These pains are different from one woman to another and also from one pregnancy to another. Its quite a normal condition among most of the moms to be and you do not have anything serious to worry about. Let’s know why this happens and at which stage of pregnancy.

Labour Before Delivery: Now these could be called as false labour or also termed as Braxton Hicks contractions. In this, your body would undergo uterus contractions even before the true or actual contraction of giving birth. This lasts for a very short period of time, be 30 seconds to a couple of minutes and is a way of your body preparing you for the actual labour contraction.

Unlike actual labour, Braxton Hicks mostly goes away with a change of position. These irregular uterine contractions are perfectly normal and may start to occur in your second trimester, although more commonly during the third trimester of pregnancy.

How does False Labour feel like?

Braxton Hicks contractions can be experienced in the form of a tightening in the abdomen that comes and goes away. These contractions will not come close together, would not increase while walking, would not increase in duration, and do not feel stronger over time as it may do when you are in true labour. You may experience these contractions irregularly.

They often do not cause much pain or get stronger on the start and weaken later. It stops when you walk or take some rest or go away if you simply change positions. Braxton hicks’ contractions are usually felt in the front of the abdomen or the pelvic region.

It is practice labour and during the end of your pregnancy term, these contractions tend to be felt stronger and should not be confused with the start of labour. If you’re worried that the tightening you’re feeling might be the start of labour, contact your midwife, birth centre or labour ward for advice.

Start of pain before the Actual Labour:

Most of the women have a labour experience that begins sometime between week 37 and week 42 of pregnancy. Labour that occurs before 37 weeks of pregnancy is considered premature or preterm.

Just as pregnancy is different for every woman, the start of labour, the signs of labour, and the length of time it takes to go through labour vary from woman to woman and even from pregnancy to pregnancy.

Lastly, do not panic if your labour pain is false or true. Your body is trying to prepare itself for something you have been waiting for since so long. Take deep breaths and if you feel its too much pain to handle during every false labour then do not step back from contacting your doctor. Stay safe and happy parenthood.
